Skin deep by GregorryKalic Skin deep by GregorryKalic
("Beauty comes from the inside and so does ugliness! Yet, make-up is my armour, Dear, and I must hide my face. One and one is sometimes three, sometimes nothing at all, all is mortal, all is vain ...- and mortal things must fall!")

My version of one of the seven deadly sins, vanity.
A haggard old women trying to recapture her youth and beauty by any means possible .
Actually I might go and scan a better version, but this one is very interesting because it sorta looks like a collage

I love the meaning behind this artwork. It is beautifully drawn and the idea is easily understood by just looking at the artwork. I love the mask, and the jewels. The dress seems to be a bit too simple though. Amazing details on the skin and dress. Maybe the hair could use some more shading or texture to it(maybe, just maybe :3 ). Just wondering...what's the breaking circly rope for?

People are often so judgmental and envious. Not just in beauty, it extends to many other matters too. This person envies this person because this person has this and has that. We want so much more and sometimes we get too desperate in that pursuit. We judge people so easily and that is just a natural habit. It is often abused though.

Beautiful message, beautiful artwork!

Thank you very much for your generous and long comment ( I really like the fact it's such a big comment :3)The original I think looks better, this is actually a photo my friend took case my scanner is dead ^^.The dress is simple purposely so it wouldn't compete with the face and the mask, and as for the ''rope'' as you put it, it's not a rope it is actually a broken halo representing fall from grace .

Welcome sur!

Nice concept behind the halo too. Sorry, the weavings(?) on the halo made it look like a rope to me.

i like your style and i like that your piece is thoughtful
i think this piece is more than just a version of one of the sins
in my opinion, lots of women feel like this old woman, they suffer inside cause they forced to use make-up to look like everyone around want them to...
it's a piece of current interest, really, and it can make people think about this problem
great work, keep it up!

Thank you very much !!
That was just what I wanted to achieve, although I think today it isn't only women that suffer in this way. Men are just as susceptible to the curse of beauty and vanity.
In the end everyone is trying to measure up to something that they themselves can't define .
